Our Corporate Identity
The African Sustainable Development Fund (the Fund) is an independent regional grant making and a capacity building, resource and leadership mobilization initiative working to realise sustainable development in poor and marginalised communities across Africa. The Fund supports innovative and impact-oriented anti-poverty initiatives of non-governmental organisations and community groups, and works in partnership with governments, international organisations, civil society, donor institutions and other stakeholders to end poverty, promote decent life along human development standards and address social injustices and environmental ills in local communities.
With operational offices in Freetown, Sierra Leone, the Fund maintains a regional scope and mandate. It acts as a regional voice to promote civil society and local development actors’ role in sustainable development endeavours in marginalized African communities. In doing so, it enables NGOs and community groups to plan and implement innovative, effective and efficient anti-poverty initiatives, and ensure that their development efforts are sustainable with long-term impacts to create a better future.
Our Corporate Vision
The Fund’s corporate vision is “a poverty-free world where local communities move from passive dependence on political patronage that does not solve their problems to self-reliance and a better quality of life for all.”
Our Fundamental Objective
The ASDF’s fundamental objective is “to bridge the gap that exists between large institutional donors and corporate sector funding and local development actors, including civil society organisations as means to enable them to actively participate in sustainable development endeavours, and at the same time promote a tradition of community action and self-help.”
In pursuit of this objective and its corporate vision, the Fund provides grants and builds the capacity of local civil society groups and also advocates for strong attainable pro-poor policies and their implementation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in societies across Africa. The Fund does this through thorough planning and implementing efficient strategies for creating and sustaining open and productive discussion platforms that aim to establish effective participatory-partnerships with key policymakers, stakeholders and programme beneficiaries as potent force for sustainable development and social responsibility.
Our Core Value and Operational Principles
Moreover, the Fund’s core value is based on providing opportunities for community development actors through training and capacity development and the appropriate resources that aim at eradicating abject poverty and extreme human suffering and addressing other development challenges that were previously (or are) considered the exclusive responsibility of government and state structures.
Our Strategic Approaches
The Fund ensures an ‘Accurate Planning and Budgeting Systems and Procedures’ to fine-tune in line with its operations and also ensures a ‘Continuous Monitoring and Evaluation for Impact Assessment’ on the roles it seeks to play. It keeps administration expenditure to a minimum and nurtures the voluntary contributions and spirit that sustains it. In taking this approach, thus, the Fund adheres to its own unique values and core operational principles, a code of professional conduct, conflict of interest policy, gift acceptance policy, and other key internal governing policies and guidelines. In all its operations, the Fund is open to all people of goodwill and promotes equal opportunities.
